My wife is trying to be a catholic again but she is going though so much though her life she was asking me about why god would allow this? Most try to tell me it isnt God it is the devil (whom I personally believe is the biggest scapegoat of all) or it is mankind - after all they are the ones who are destroying/polluting their own land which could be the case I suppose but I personally never had a good opinion about several Gods esp the Christian one. For some reason she wanted me to look up Cain and Able and I did as I latter I found out I was mistaken about the story: https://www.biblestudytools.com/bible-stories/cain-and-abel.html
I assumed he killed able because he was jealous mostly because of a coat but that is not even close really and there was more to it than that. It began after a sacrifice to go their God where Cain brought some of the produce from the land like a good modern day druid; while Abel brought the firstborn of his sheep! So I guess God preferred Abel's best innocent animal to die instead of Crops form Cain??? Its better that a animal died than food that wasn't murdered!!! I then remember when I first realized that many of the original Pagans did the same thing it just makes me wonder. I only hope that the Gods didnt demand this but perhaps the people had it all wrong? BUT according to many Christians the bible is there Gods word 100%; the pagans however are not as picky. I want to believe that My Mother Earth who loves this planet as she is a part of it is not about killing pieces of it to satisfy her.
Right now I am off work until my foot heals after my summer break (I work at a University and they cannot use me over the summer lately thanks to COVID) but most of my sacrifices are to help animals and nature not to kill them. Usually when farmers grow crops they do not kill them to bring forth produce (from the land) so I personally prefer Cains sacrifice as I am a vegetarian myself and do not support suffering or even the eating of animal flesh. Those are just my beliefs and views and I am happy to know that most neopagans supported by the community do not sacrifice animals to the gods but do similar to Cain and sacrifice grain or personal sacrifices like myself. I personally think sacrifice should not be based on the suffering of another but you giving up something that is important to you. What do you think?
